The bungalow style building that Marko Lulic reconstructed inside the Kunsthaus Bregenz in 2005 was designed by Albert Frey. Modernist architecture and modernism per se have provided the inspiration for this artist, the son of Serbo-Croat immigrants living in Vienna, to conduct his investigations. On the one hand he has reconstructed the architectural space itself, rescuing it from the erstwhile sphere of the purely pictorial and rendering it thus a site for experience once more. On the other it is the effect and the social framework of the officially constructed memorial that he largely obliterates in his project on the monuments of the revolution from the former Yugoslavia, made from simple materials and greatly reduced in scale. It is not just the meaning and function of these sculptures that is continually being questioned in these sculptural actions, but also the fact that Marko Lulic - in occasionally bizarre fashion - manages to reveal shifts as well as incrustations of social contexts within organized...
