Published on the occasion of the frame by frame restauration by argos of the videos that visual artist Lili Dujourie made from 1972 to 1981.
In the period of the early seventies, when art is injected with the methodologies and notional models closely related to exact sciences, Lili Dujourie succeeds in making a series of videos which challenged the predominant taboos of that era with penetrating, intimate images deprived of text or sound.
“The figure in ‘Hommage à…’ to all intents and purposes is indifferent to the camera/viewer. Her body at moments is laid bare to our gaze in a voluptuous vulnerability that seems to appeal to that supreme fantasy of the voyeur, imagining that the object of his gaze does not see him seeing. But like the body in sleep, it is possessed of a jealous intimacy, folded into its own impenetrable reality and never graspable in its entirety. “ (Jean Fischer)
