The End is Never Near

KORTE INHOUD

'Jan Van Imschoot. The end is never near' gives a comprehensive overview of the oeuvre of Belgian painter Jan Van Imschoot (1963, Ghent, Belgium). Van Imschoot studied painting in Ghent, the city where he lived and worked until he

moved to France in 2013.

The directness of his figurative style, the decisive brushwork and the balanced and audacious use of colour is striking. Jan Van Imschoot consciously opts for a clear, sometimes contradictory and ironic language.

His work is built up around historical themes from literature and art history, and build bridges to predecessors such as Caravaggio, Tintoretto, Goya and Manet. The artist engages in a continuous dialogue with the past, in which he, with a dose of cynicism, often targets phenomena or figures that find themselves on the fringes of (contemporary) society.

This book brings together more than 220 works by Jan Van Imschoot, together with five accompanying texts, they give a comprehensive insight into the painting practice of this Belgian master.
