This catalogue accompanies the exhibition organised by the Royal Museum for Central Africa (Tervuren) and offers a new look at the peoples of the Omo Valley and surrounding regions. For the first time, their everyday objects are exhibited, bringing into focus their beauty and their role within a society that must constantly adapt to the laws of nature. Gustaaf Verswijver, Exhibition Commissioner and scientific researcher, explains the social and geopolitical challenges and problems that have recently confronted these pastoral communities. Fifty unpublished photographs by Hans Silvester illustrate the author's introduction and explanation of Omo body painting.
