Africa. Land of Spirits - Zevi, Claudia & Gigi Pezzoli (eds.)

KORTE INHOUD

The exhibition "Africa. The land of spirits" displays over 200 pieces of African art from the Middle Ages to today. It is almost impossible to consider the African art without being influenced by expressive codes of the vanguards of the XX century (Picasso, Matisse and Giacometti) that, first, have emphasized the African aesthetic value. Traditional African sculptors do not copy the visible reality, but reinvented it each time creating new models to represent it. The works shown are reinterpreted in the light of Western culture and the daily life of the population of Black Africa.00Exhibition: Milano, MUDEC-Museo delle Culture, March 29 - August 30, 2015.
