Vergils Weltsicht. Optimismus und Pessimismus in Vergils Georgica. - R. Cramer

Optimismus Und Pessimismus in Vergils Georgica (Untersuchungen Zur Antiken Literatur Und Geschichte)

KORTE INHOUD

'C. does have useful things to say about the 'Georgics'. His reaction to Thomas's ambivalent view of the 'laudes Italiae' is worth reading, as is his discussion of the 'theodicy' of Book 1. The tendentious omissions however, along with the frequent deletions from the text, weaken his case dramatically, as does the failure to address the poem's greater implications outside of the simplistic dichotomy, optimism or pessimism. In short, scholars will want to consult this book, but it will be most useful to those wishing to launch their own salvoes in this particular debate. Those interested in the big picture will not find it here.' (CHRISTOPHER NAPPA in The classical Review (New Series), 2000, p.46).
