Vergil's Latium. - TILLY, Bertha,

KORTE INHOUD

'In spite of certain weaknesses there is much of interest and value in this book, based as it is not only on a study of the historical and archaeological evidence, but on first-hand investigation of the sites described. Miss Tilly has been not unsuccessful in presenting a picture of the Campagna, to quote prom her preface, 'in all its tranquillity, seclusion and beauty of pre-war days', and has provided a companion to the last six books of the 'Aeneid' which for many english readers may well give a new interest to the reading of these books. In conclusion it must be said that the lack of an index detracts considerably from the book's usefulness.' (M.L. CLARKE in The Classical Review, 1949, pp.27-28).
