Untersuchungen zu Sprache und Stil der Schrift 'Peri hypsous'. - BLUME, H.-D.,

KORTE INHOUD

'Dr. Blume in his doctoral dissertation has made the first serious attempt to analyse the curiously elaborate Greek of this writer and to discover the principles which lie behind his choice of words and the structure of his sentences. He divides his work into three parts. The first and shortest concerns diction. (...). The second part concerns 'mimesis'. (...) The last part of the book, entitled 'Synthesis', describes and illustrates Longinus' 'independent use of stylistic figures, his word-order, rhythm, sentence-structure, ring-composition, etc. Blume's analyses of particular sentences and passages is careful, sensitivem and thorough, and he reveals many unsuspected subtleties in the elaborate architecture of 'Longinus'' prose. (...) It contains much that is interesting and original and it is clearly the work of a talented scholar.' (H.LL. HUDSON WILLIAMS in The Classical Review (New Series), 1965, pp.226-27). From the library of the late Prof. W. Geoffrey Arnott.
