This publication appears on the occasion of the exhibition TRANSFERTS, which will take place at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels from 21 June through 14 September 2003. TRANSFERTS will bring together works of African artists from different generations and will be part of a series of events for Africalia to take place in Belgium from March through October 2003.nnCreated in 2001, Africalia is a development project whose objective is to take into account the role of culture within the economical, technological and political development in Africa. Its goal is to develop collaborations by promoting and supporting cultural African creations. nnThe term TRANSFERTS is often used in connection with migratory or financial movements. Thus the title of this exhibition refers to the incessant fluxes of people, goods, information, and ideas that characterise our world and cause it to be in a permanent state of mutation.
