The structure of science - Ernest Nagel

problems in the logic of scientific explanation

KORTE INHOUD

This book, although an .essay in the philosophy of science, nevertheless deals with a more integrated group of questions. Its scope is governed by the objective of analysing the logic of scientific enquiry and the logical structure of its intellectual products. The author discusses primarily the nature of scientific explanations; their logical structures, their mutual relations, their functions in enquiry and their devices for systematising knowledge. He has avoided highly formalised presentations of analyses and the use of the symbolic notation of modern logic.
