The Poet at Play. Kallimachos, the Bath of Pallas. - Mc KAY, K.J.,

KORTE INHOUD

'The book contains a text, differing from Pfeiffer's at vv.14 and 61, translation, a general chapter on the Hymns, a chapter on the 'Hymn to Demeter', and four chapters on the 'Loutra tes Pallados'. McKay has little interest in sytactical or textual points, and his most interesting pages are those on the euphony of Callimachus' verses, and the effect of vowel-patterns. McKay's own language aims at the popular (...). There are many details on which I would quarrel with McKay. (...) But in detail he has some unusual insights, and shows considerable sensitivity to rhythm and sound patterns.' (J. GRIFFIN in The Classical Review (New Series), 1963, pp.151-53).
