No project in Obersalzberg has drawn so much attention to itself as the Eagle's Nest. In fact, at one time the whole world seemed fascinated by the building overlooking Berchtesgaden. The fascination was hardly without basis: The Eagle's Nest and the road leading up to it are veritable masterpieces of construction. Everyone marveled at the achievement o the engineers and workers who built the daring high alpine road and the Eagle's Nest. Marin Bormann wanted to give the house to Hitler for his 50th birthday. However, since Hitler was also responsible for the project, it could hardly be described as a surprise Nevertheless, the Eagle's Nest was Bormann's idea.
