The Dark Age of Greece. An Archaeological Survey of the Eleventh to the Eight Centuries BC. - SNODGRASS, A.M.,

an archaeological survey of the eleventh to the eighth centuries BC

KORTE INHOUD

'This ambitious undertaking by Snodgrass covers an extremely complicated period in Greek history which includes Sub-Mycenaean (ca.1125-1050). Protogeometric (1050-900), and Geometric (900-700). It is a most interesting idea to treat these centuries as a unity.(?) Following the disasters that caused the collapse of the Mycenaean world during the twelfth century B.C., Greece experienced a severe recession, culminating in a period of isolation ca 1050-950 B.C. Snodgrass sees a slow recovery after this, but maintains that Greece did not really emerge from the Dark Age until the middle of the 8th century.'
