Sueton und die antike Biographie. - STEIDLE, W.,

KORTE INHOUD

'The purpose of this writer is excellent, and his subject interesting to the student of history and literature alike. He sets out to correct a widely held estimate of the significance and literary status of Suetonius in his Lives of the Caesars. (...) The analysis of selected Lives is followed by an elucidation of the peculiarly Roman element in them, and by an exposition of their Formengeschichte, which seems a valuable contribution to the history of ancient biography. (...) This is an interesting book, and well got up.' (R.J. HOPPER in The Classical Review (New Series), 1953, p.122-23).
