Studien zum Latein des Victor Vitensis. - PITKÄRANTA, R.,

KORTE INHOUD

'Victor of Vita was a bishop in N. Africa some time in the fifth century; his 'Historia persecutionis Africanae provinciae belongs to the later part of that century. P. has here provided a careful and accurate description of the language of the work. Victor had had some sort of rhetorical training (...) and his Latin abounds in artificialities, but he was unable to escape the influence of the spoken language. It is this vulgar element with which P. is chiefly concerned, although he also deals with literary usages (...). P. males many good observations on points of detail, and his collections of evidence will be useful. (...) within the limits whit which he has set himself P. has produced an excellent monograph.'
