By the end of the 1960's, the Belgian Air Force is forced to seek a replacement fpor the ageing SV.4bis. After evaluating five aircraft on offer, an Italian single-engine desiign by Stelio Frati is selected. The SF.260, often erroneously refered to as 3 Maechetti ", celebrates 40 years of operational service in 2009.
Although this discrete but remarkable plane never much made the headlines, neither in general nor in the Belgian Air Force, it nevertheless is the plane that that enabled hundreds of pilots to make their dream come true.
The machettie also was-and is - a worthy ambassador of Belgian wings, due to the different demonstration teams that displayed their prowess using it as their mount.
