?The study of the classical tradition has long been a disparate one. All too often scholars have tended to concentrate upon the influences of antiquity in one writer or artist, and failed to place these influences in a wider context. Yet, without this context, the classical tradition is little more than an exercise in erudition. This volume (?) is therefore a welcome collection of seventeen essays that draw parallels between the many and diverse aspects of the classical tradition in the early modern period. (?) The volume will be useful to historians of all aspects of the early modern period, as well as historians of the classical tradition and cultural history.
