'This is not a Direct Method book: for the high adventure of the Direct Method there are already excellent courses written. This book works through translation both ways. It is intended to lead the beginner to the stage when simple texts will be read (...). The Grammar given on the left is put to use immedeiately in the exercises given on the right. (...) The main attack on on the Latin Verb, not forgetting the Nominative and Accusative. The Grammar will, of course, be learned thoroughly, though it will often be applied before it is thoroughly known: for the necessary constant revision the pages added at the end of the book will be found useful.
