Master of Elsloo - * *
From Lonely Hand to Collection of Masters
KORTE INHOUD
During the Middle Ages there was a vibrant wooden sculpture industry in what is now known as the Meuse-Rhine region. Unfortunately, in most cases we do not know who commissioned the sculptures or who made them. The artists responsible have therefore been given improvised names, the most famous of which is the 'Master of Elsloo'.
In recent years several studies have examined the sculptures attributed to this master. Nevertheless, his identity remains shrouded in mystery. This book presents a representative picture of the 'Master of Elsloo', bringing together more than fifty isolated sculptures to form a new collection
