This volume gathers the proceedings of a conference held in Brussels in the framework of international 'elites in the High Middle Ages' and intends to consider wealth as a criterion for membership in the elite social, political or religious and uses made of their material wealth by the members of these groups. Possession of material wealth, whether land, houses, jewelry, weapons, goods production or prestige goods, part of which has elements of social groups or individuals of exert their dominance over others. A symbol of prestige benefits that the culture or the situation at the head of complex networks in a society where the hierarchies are essential, wealth and class contribute to the establishment of the rank of an individual or group in social order.
