Employment, Earnings and Poverty. A Study of Rural India and Indonesia. - CHADHA, G.K.
a study of rural India and Indonesia
KORTE INHOUD
Based on extensive fieldwork in three states of India and on an exhaustive survey of secondary sources on Indonesia, Employment, Earnings, and Poverty examines the structure of employment and earnings among the weaker sections in rural India and Indonesia, the two most populous countries of Asia. The changing level and nature of development are discussed in terms of three scenarios: the general economic backwardness, a situation where agriculture is highly developed but non-agricultural avenues of employment are not, and a situation where these two areas are highly developed. This study provides support to the trickle-down theory of development and offers new insights into on-farm and off-farm employment.
