It is not really suitable for beginners, for, while it is much concerned with fundamental questions about the nature of Latin metre, it assumes certain rudimentary information as known or presents it in very summary form. Drexler deals first with general questions (e.g. accent, caesura), then terminolgy, early Latin scenic metres, saturnian verse, hexameter, pentameter, lyric verse, the verse of Seneca, and prose rhythm.
