This publication accompanies the exhibition, 30 May - 28 July, "Drawings by Orson Welles (1915-1985) for the film The Trial", 1962.

All drawings are created by Orson Welles.

George Orson Welles was an American actor, film and stage director, screenwriter, influential filmmaker and creator of art.
Welles became world famous in 1938 for the radio broadcast of "The War of the Worlds". He is also known as the director of the feature film classic "Citizen Kane", and many others like "The Trial".

The Trial (1962 film)
In 1962, Welles directed his adaptation of The Trial, based on the novel by Franz Kafka and produced by Michael and Alexander Salkind. The cast included Anthony Perkins as Josef K, Jeanne Moreau, Romy Schneider, Paola Mori and Akim Tamiroff.
While filming exteriors in Zagreb, Welles was informed that the Salkinds had run out of money, meaning that there could be no set construction.
No stranger to shooting on found locations, Welles soon filmed the interiors in the Gare d'Orsay...
