Die neuen Menanderpapyri und die Originalität des Plautus. Vorgetragen am 9. Dezember 1972. - PÖSCHL, V.,

KORTE INHOUD

'Professor Pöschl's contribution is very interesting. After some stringent remarks on earlier assessments of Plautine originality, he concentrates on the relation between 'Dis Exapaton' 103 ff. and 'Bacchides' 536 ff, where Plautus has handled Pistoclerus' disappointment over Mnesilochus' behaviour with a dramatic motif that owes nothing to the Menandrean original: that of the fictitious parallel. As Pöschl shows, this motif is a favourite one in literature both ancient and modern (...). This essay adds a new perspective to an already popular picture.' (GEOFFREY ARNOTT in The Classcial Review (New Series), 1975, p.314). From the library of the late Prof. W. Geoffrey Arnott.
