Der Buchstabe H im Griechischen. - SCHMITT, A.,

KORTE INHOUD

Smitt 'argues convincingly that the adaptation of the Phoenician letters to Greek was more practical than systematic; the Greeks took over, with the letters and their names (...), the acrophonic method of using them. He then argues that the vocalic value of H, as of A E O is a natural outcome of this manner of adpatation.' (D.M. Jones in The Classical Review (New Series) 1954, p.173). From the library of the late Sir Kenneth James Dover.
