?It is rare in this current scholarly climate of extreme caution for anyone to claim that something is a definitive study of anything. Bold though I may be, I would like to make an exception to that practice here: José Maía Sánchez Martín?s edition, translation, and extensive study of the ?Versus? of Isidore of Seville is the definitive study of the poetic work of this Spanish bishop, and no doubt will long remain so.
