Arator-Studien. - SCHWIND, J.,

KORTE INHOUD

'Many who are interested in Late Antiquity know that the subdeacon Arator recited his version of the Acts of the Apostles in the church of St. Peter ad Vincula in 544 - it is one of the best known vignettes of Late Antique literary history - but little more. Those who are curious about the background, all serious scholars of Christian Latin poetry, will be pleased to note this excellent new study of the poem. Although it does not present a view of Arator's methods and purposes that is strikingly new, its painstaking assembly and careful presentation of material in support of its various conclusions makes it a book to be warmly welcomed, and carefully studied (?).' (R.P.H. GREEN in Gnomon, 1997, p.163).
