The fragility of goodness. Luck and ethics in Greek tragedy and philosophy. - NUSSBAUM, Martha C.,

luck and ethics in Greek tragedy and philosophy

KORTE INHOUD

'We have much to learn from N. (?) I have grave doubts about the way in which N. interprets the texts with which she has chosen to work ? and in so highly exegetical a book that is obviously a serious flaw. But many readers will, I suspect, be more sympathetic to N.?s hermeneutics; and my criticisms should not obscure the fact that I found much to admire in her exegeses, and much to profit from. For all its faults, this is a splendid book ? clever, learned and wise. It is also, despite its complexity, extremely lucid. I commend it, therefore, not unreservedly, but warmly and without hsesitation.? (Malcolm Heath in The Classical Review (New Series), 1987, p.47).
