Rudolf Stingel has transformed the unique building of the Neue Nationalgalerie with a bold intervention; covering the entire floor of the large museum hall with a carpet, the pattern of which stems from an original 19th century Indian Agra rug. Sensual opulence and oriental patterns reshape Mies van der Rohe's strictly structured architecture. The book documents this intervention and is, like the installation itself, set out in an oversized format: an artists' book that introduces four new paintings that are to be understood as spatially oriented works.
