Personal Religion among the Greeks. - FESTUGIÈRE, A.J.,

KORTE INHOUD

Aim of Festugière ?is to show ?that there was, throughout the history of Greek religion, from at least the time of Heraclitus and the tragedians, a desire to enter into direct, intimate and personal contact with the divinity. The Concept of God may have changed; the desire to see God, to touch Him, to talk with Him, heart to heart, did not change.? In following out this plan, Festugière is always interesting and sometimes moving (?). This book is not only scholarly, it uses scholarship, as scholarship should e used, in the service of something more profound.? (W.K.C. GUTHRIE in The Classical review (New Series), 1956, pp.49-51).
