In 2007, multidisciplinary visual artist Hans Op de Beeck (*1969 in Turnhout) mounted a traveling exhibition called Extensions, which comprised video work, sculptural installations, sculptures, photographs, and drawings. This book documents the exhibition and also contains Spa, a short story inspired by it, which is written from the perspective of an eighty-year-old man looking back on his life during a forced stay at a spa resort for the elderly. The visual work focuses on the complex configurations of apparatus and architectural volumes which as a kind of extension of the human body seem to offer ready-made solutions to needs and ethical questions that may or may not have been created.
