Luc Tuymans is a painter who has made a significant contribution to the medium of painting over the past fifteen years. Born in Antwerp, Belgium (1958), where he continues to live and work. He is one of the most highly regarded artists of his generation. His work was first exhibited in the late 1980s and since then he has participated in Documenta IX 1992 and XI 2002, Kassel, Germany and presented Mwana Kitoko - Beautiful White Man in the Belgian Pavillion, Giardini di Venezia, Venice Biennale 2001. This will be the first major exhibition of his work in the UK. nnTuyman's projects have enormous breadth and present an in-depth study of the nature of painting and representation as well as the condition and quality of memory and its depiction. Sensing early on that nothing new or original was possible within the medium of painting, Tuymans created the notion of 'authentic forgery'.
