Die Ordnung der Welt. Ein Beitrag zur philosophischen und politischen Interpretation von Ciceros Schrift De Legibus. - GIRARDET, K.M.,
ein Beitrag zur philosophischen und politischen Interpretation von Ciceros Schrift de legibus
KORTE INHOUD
'Girardet argues that the philosophical framework of the 'De Leg.' has been wrongly assimiliated to Stoic doctrine on Natural Law; while the Stoics (and Antiochus) denied that ordinary laws were real laws at all, for Cicero nature (and so human nature, and so both human and divine reason) is the source of law; thus tight and good written laws, drafted by a 'sapiens', are natural laws - they do not merely reflect a superior Natural Law. G. (...) suggests that we may have tended to misunderstand Cicero by seeing him through the eyes of Lactantius and Augustine. (...) The nature of Rome's relation to other states is important to G. because he sees the 'De Leg.' with the closely related 'De Rep.' as a practical call to action. Here he perhaps lacks nuance. (...) In spite of its 'longeurs', this book seems to me an interesting contribution to discussion of its subject.' (ELIZATETH RAWSON in The Journal of Roman Studies, 1985, pp.310-311).
