This book is divided into four sections. The first attempts to define and describe the communication process as we see it. Several moels are presented which should help you visualize this complex phenomonon.
The second section focuses on the primary oucomes of interpersonal communication: information, acquisition, attraction, and influence. While we recognize that these outcomes are not separable in actual communication transactions, we have separated them in this section so that we could examine each in more detail, in what we hope is a less confusing context.
The third section concentrates on the tree most important variables in interpersonal communicatio: the source, the receiver, and the messages - both verbal and nonverbal. The limitations each imposes on interpersonal communication transactions are considered and the related research is summarized and interpreted.
